As the weather gets a little better we must all be reminded of the importance of sunscreen to keep our skin protected from harmful UVA And UVB rays, but which one should we choose ?
Sunscreens are available in a variety of formats and Formulars to suit every individual skin type keeping the skin nourished radiant and protected even on the sunniest of days.
With chemical sunscreens and mineral sunscreens it’s tricky to know which one is best for you and your skin type so let’s break it down and explain the differences and benefits of both.
Chemical sunscreen
Let’s get a little technical ! A chemical sunscreen is formulated with oxybenzone and Avabenzone, which absorbs the harmful uv rays converting them into heat before releasing them into the skin, this protects the skin from the harmful UVA and UBV rays.
Mineral sunscreens are a great choice if you have oily or acne prone skin.
Mineral sunscreen
Mineral, also known as physical sunscreens, use natural minerals such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect the skin from UV rays. Forming a barrier the minerals sit on the surface of the skin, blocking out and reflecting any harmful rays, preventing sun damage and the risk of skin cancer.
A gentler option for people with sensitive skin, babies and children as a mineral sunscreen is less likely to cause irritation or reactions to the skin.
Whichever one is right for you, make sure you are wearing your sunscreen daily and reapply if needed and in very sunny weather and after swimming.
A sunscreen of at least 25 should be used every day of the year and you will find many of your skincare products and make up have already got a sunscreen in them to make this process super easy.
Enjoy the sunshine and stay safe!
